Deciding on your Future

Driving to work this morning we were are all wishing the matrics of 2019 success as they start their final exams this morning. 110 000 students will be writing this year’s exams. It got me thinking, how on earth are they all going to be able to study further and are they aware or equipped to make the informed decisions they need to make regarding their future careers. I can guarantee that maybe 5% of these students know exactly where they will be studying next year and their chosen career path. But have any of these 110 000 students been exposed to all the possibilities of The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Technology has been evolving in the past decades and at a faster pace now. Education is the foundation of any country’s progress.
If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s students. We rob them of tomorrow ----John Dewey
65% of jobs that will be available in 10 years’ time, do not exist today, and industry needs to highlight the way forward for this workforce to understand what current and future requirements will be. The Fourth Industrial Revolution’s (4IR)’s potential is limitless. Its technologies, like artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT), offer a new vision for economic growth, innovation, development and human well-being. It can solve a host of business and social challenges, from providing better healthcare and basic services to creating more efficient governments, and helping businesses become intelligent enterprises that drive growth and prosperity.
Although there are many career expo’s out there, we realised there was a need to show the youth what their future will look like focusing on the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) on current careers and future jobs. Our annual summit is aimed at pupils, students, teachers, and people already employed wanting to understand how they should up skill themselves to remain relevant and competitive in this ever changing work environment.
